Casting and mastery answer different questions
A music score measures an attempt at the performance challenge. The official tutorial clarification says that score does not need to include a star for you to cast. If a guide implies that everyone must perfect the first song before continuing, it is at odds with the developer’s published explanation.
This does not make every spell interaction automatic or remove the need to follow the current game prompts. It means a failed or low-scoring practice attempt should not be interpreted as proof that a mandatory rhythm threshold is blocking the whole adventure. Exact note sequences and target controls still depend on the installed build.

Use the help added to the demo
Version 0.466 added another layer of help to the music minigame in the options. The patch does not provide the exact option label or enumerate every setting, so we avoid inventing a menu path or a list of toggles. Look in the current options and use the assistance described there.
This is especially relevant if you tried the demo near its April launch and left because the music was difficult to read or perform. Updating the game before returning is a better starting point than following a workaround written for the first public build.
Song of Tilling received a specific adjustment
The June 0.484 note identifies Song of Tilling as the first song and says it was made easier to improve the difficulty ramp. The developer also says songs are not intended to be maxed out on the first attempt, or necessarily after only a few attempts.
That gives you permission to treat practice as practice. The wiki does not assign an expected number of tries, an ideal score, or a hidden completion percentage. If you enjoy improving a song, the tracker can record your own state; if you do not, do not mistake its unchecked boxes for required story progress.
What the historical star wording establishes
The 0.465 notes discuss keeping the learned star easy and making perfected harder relative to the immediately preceding patch. That documents tuning, not a complete formula for every song’s rewards. We have not verified all mastery thresholds, costs or effects.
The tracker’s learned, practiced and perfected labels are personal notes. They are not imported from your save and do not claim to calculate a hidden game value. A checked state never proves that the current build awarded a particular bonus.
Choose the right place to rehearse
Normal flute mode deliberately does not stop the clock, according to 0.464. In that same note, the developer points players toward practice rooms in the music classroom. The time guide explains the broader event, evening and menu pauses so you can avoid treating every musical interaction as a pause.
If time pressure is the reason you are rushing a performance, first check where you are practicing and what the current clock is doing. We do not estimate a maximum number of attempts that fit into an in-game hour. Use the visible game state rather than a guessed conversion.
